Rose Cobden biography

Rose Cobden is a children’s author and editor with ten years’ experience working in publishing. Her books for younger children are published by Ladybird, an imprint of Penguin Random House, and include rhyming picture books, interactive board books and introductory non-fiction.

Her picture book Welcome to Dinosaur School (2022), illustrated by Loretta Schauer, follows Jewel, a young dinosaur who feels nervous about her first day at school. Cobden and Schauer also collaborated on Welcome to Unicorn School (2023), which tells the story of Rocky, a young unicorn whose excitement about starting school turns to worry when something goes wrong.

Cobden’s other books include It’s Potty Time! (2022), illustrated by Samantha Meredith and developed with toilet-training expert Amanda Jenner. The rhyming board book includes practical advice for parents. She also wrote The King’s Crown (2023), illustrated by Rosalind Maroney, a lift-the-flap story in which children help a king search for his missing crown before a parade.

Cobden is also credited on Ladybird’s A Walk in… series of illustrated non-fiction board books. The seasonal titles A Walk in Spring, A Walk in Summer, A Walk in Autumn and A Walk in Winter were published in 2024, with illustrations by Hannah Abbo. Each features nature facts and more than 40 flaps exploring seasonal changes.

Her contribution to the series also includes A Walk on the Farm, illustrated by Hannah Tolson. Published by Ladybird on 1 May 2025, the book introduces young readers to farm animals, hatching chicks, feeding lambs and harvesting crops through interactive flaps and short factual passages.
