Rob Burrow was a former professional rugby league footballer who spent sixteen years with Leeds Rhinos in the Super League and retired in 2017. He represented England and Great Britain, won eight Super League championships and two Challenge Cups, and was named on the Super League Dream Team three times. In 2021 he published his first book, Too Many Reasons to Live, a memoir about his rugby career, his friendship with Kevin Sinfield and his experience of motor neurone disease.
Too Many Reasons to Live won Autobiography of the Year at the Sports Book Awards in 2022. Burrow went on to write With You Every Step with Kevin Sinfield, a short celebration of friendship published in November 2023, with artwork by Rob Biddulph, Reggie Brown, David Litchfield, Gill Smith and Sam Usher. For every copy sold, 50p is donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity.
Burrow also co-created Try with Kevin Sinfield and Emma Adams, illustrated by Ben Whitehouse. The story follows two young friends as they explore what makes someone a hero, and it centres friendship, kindness and different kinds of strength. Rob Burrow died in June 2024, and Try was published by Macmillan Children’s Books on 10 April 2025.
