Richard Merritt is a North London-born illustrator and artist. He studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Kingston University before building a professional illustration career. His work has covered children’s books, packaging, editorial art and costume illustration for film.
Merritt has worked with publishing houses, magazines, design groups and advertising agencies. His film-related illustration work includes costume illustration for the Steven Spielberg adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG.
His picture-book work includes The Dinosaur Department Store, written by Lily Murray and illustrated by Merritt. The book is a 32-page children’s picture book about Eliza Jane, a child who wants a prehistoric pet, and it was published on 7 March 2019.
Merritt illustrated The Robin Who Stole Christmas, written by Rachel Morrisroe and published by Penguin Random House Children’s UK on 12 October 2023. The 32-page festive picture book is aimed at very young children.
