Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Rebecca Westcott is a British author of children’s and young adult fiction. She is known for writing contemporary stories that explore family relationships and personal challenges. Westcott’s debut novel, Dandelion Clocks, was published by Puffin in 2014. The book follows the story of a young girl coping with her mother’s terminal illness and has been noted for its sensitive portrayal of grief and resilience.
Following her debut, Westcott published Violet Ink in 2014, also with Puffin. This novel centres on a teenage girl navigating friendship and family changes, and is written in a diary format. In 2015, she released Butterfly Summer, which tells the story of a girl uncovering family secrets during a summer spent with her grandmother.
Westcott has also co-authored books with Libby Scott, including Can You See Me?, published by Scholastic in 2019. This collaboration draws on Scott’s own experiences and aims to provide insight into the life of an autistic young person. The partnership continued with further titles such as Do You Know Me? (2020) and Ways to Be Me (2021), both published by Scholastic.
Rebecca Westcott’s work has been recognised for its authentic voice and relatable characters. In 2019, Can You See Me? was published by Scholastic, marking a significant collaboration in her career.
