Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Rebecca Struthers is a British watchmaker, historian and author. In 2017, she became the first watchmaker in British history to earn a PhD in horology.
She co-founded Struthers Watchmakers, a workshop specialising in watch restoration and traditional watchmaking, including the handmaking of parts using heritage tools and machinery.
In 2021, Struthers received the Heritage Crafts President’s Award for Endangered Crafts.
Her book Hands of Time: A Watchmaker’s History was a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week. She co-authored the children’s non-fiction title About Time with Alom Shaha, illustrated by Lucy Rose, published by DK on 28 August 2025.
