Kicking off our first set of book club recommendations is April 2022’s picks featuring a diverse range of titles by Hayley Wells, Pooja Puri, Kelly Barnhill, Eloise Williams, Varsha Shah, Pam Smy and Nancy Springer.
Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Pooja Puri is a British author known for her work in children’s and young adult fiction. She studied English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of Surrey. Puri’s debut novel for young readers, Chasing the Stars, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2017. The story explores themes of migration and resilience, following the journey of a young refugee.
Puri has also written for younger readers. Her series, A Dinosaur Ate My Sister, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2021 as part of the Marcus Rashford Book Club. The book features time travel and adventure, aimed at engaging children with humour and imagination.
In addition to her writing, Puri has contributed to anthologies and has been involved in various literary events and workshops for young people. Her work has been recognised for its focus on contemporary issues and its appeal to a wide range of young readers.
Pooja Puri’s A Dinosaur Ate My Sister was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2021.
