Philip Wilkinson is a British author of non-fiction for children and adults. Educated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, he worked as an editor before turning to writing. His books focus on history, the arts, religion and architecture, and he has written more than fifty titles.
Wilkinson’s early works include Amazing Buildings (1993) and Illustrated Dictionary of Religions (1999). He wrote What the Romans Did For Us (2001) to accompany the television series, and later produced reference guides on belief systems and world cultures. Publishers of his books include Dorling Kindersley, Penguin Random House, Kingfisher and Oxford University Press.
His architecture writing ranges from accessible introductions to themed studies, notably 50 Architecture Ideas You Really Need to Know (2010) and Phantom Architecture (2017). He has also written on mythology for general readers, including DK’s Eyewitness Companion: Mythology, and on global traditions in A Celebration of Customs and Rituals of the World.
