Philip Ardagh is a British author known for his work in children’s literature. He has written over 100 books, including fiction, non-fiction, and humour titles for young readers. Ardagh is best known for the Eddie Dickens trilogy, which includes Awful End (2000), Dreadful Acts (2001), and Terrible Times (2002), published by Faber & Faber. The trilogy has been translated into more than 30 languages.
He has also written the Grubtown Tales series, with the first book, Stinking Rich & Just Plain Stinky, winning the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2009. Ardagh’s other works include the Unlikely Exploits trilogy and the Stick & Fetch series, as well as several titles in the The Secret Diary of John Drawbridge series.
In addition to his fiction, Ardagh has authored non-fiction books for children, covering topics such as history and science. He has contributed to the Horrible Histories series and written guides for the British Museum.
Ardagh has collaborated with illustrators such as Jim Paillot and Axel Scheffler. He served as the writer for the official World Book Day book, The Great Food Bank Heist, in 2021. His books have received critical recognition and have been shortlisted for several awards. In 2009, he won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize for Grubtown Tales: Stinking Rich & Just Plain Stinky.
