Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Peadar O’Guilin is an Irish author known for his work in young adult fiction. He grew up in County Donegal, Ireland, and later moved to Dublin. O’Guilin has a background in theatre and has written plays as well as fiction. His debut novel, The Inferior, was published by David Fickling Books in 2007. The book is the first in a trilogy, followed by The Deserter and The Volunteer.
O’Guilin is also the author of The Call, published by David Fickling Books in 2016. This novel is set in a dystopian version of Ireland and follows teenagers who must survive being hunted by supernatural beings. The Call was followed by a sequel, The Invasion, published in 2018.
O’Guilin’s work has been published in several languages and he has appeared at literary festivals and events. His writing often explores themes of survival, morality, and the boundaries of society. In 2017, The Call was shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal.
