Owen Davey biography

Owen Davey is a British illustrator and author known for his non-fiction picture books for children. He graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Illustration from Falmouth University. Davey has written and illustrated several books, including the award-winning Mad About Monkeys (2015), Smart About Sharks (2016), Crazy About Cats (2017), Fanatical About Frogs (2019), and Obsessive About Octopuses (2019), all published by Flying Eye Books. His work often explores animal life and natural history, combining factual content with distinctive graphic illustration.

Davey’s books have been translated into multiple languages and published internationally. He has received several accolades, including the 2016 Junior Design Award for Mad About Monkeys and the 2017 English Association Non-Fiction 7-11 Award for Smart About Sharks. In addition to his books, Davey has produced illustrations for clients such as Google, The Guardian, and WWF. His book Bonkers About Beetles was published in 2018, further expanding his series on animal life.

Owen Davey’s About Animals series has been recognised for its educational value and design. In 2019, Fanatical About Frogs was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Awards. His illustrations have also been featured in the iOS and Android game Two Dots. Davey’s most recent titles include Curious About Crocodiles (2021) and Outstanding Owls (2022), both published by Flying Eye Books.

In 2021, Davey’s Curious About Crocodiles was longlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize, which recognises promising newcomers to children’s picture book illustration.
