Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Olaf Falafel is a children’s author and illustrator known for his humorous and imaginative books. He has a background in both art and comedy, which informs his distinctive style and approach to storytelling. Falafel’s work often features playful language, visual jokes, and inventive characters, appealing to young readers and encouraging creativity.
Among his published works is the picture book Old MacDonald Heard a Parp, which was released by HarperCollins Children’s Books in 2017. The book is a comedic take on the classic nursery rhyme, incorporating sound effects and lively illustrations. Falafel has also written and illustrated One Giant Leap, published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2018, which follows the story of a space-obsessed child and his adventures.
In addition to his picture books, Olaf Falafel is the creator of the Mysteries of the Universe series, which includes titles such as Blobfish and Axolotl. These books combine factual information with humour and illustrations, aiming to engage children with science and nature topics in an accessible way.
Falafel’s books have been published by major UK publishers, including HarperCollins and Macmillan Children’s Books. His work as both author and illustrator allows him to create cohesive and engaging stories that blend text and artwork seamlessly. In 2019, his book Old MacDonald Heard a Parp was shortlisted for the Laugh Out Loud Book Awards (Lollies).
