Nikki Barthelmess is an American author of young adult fiction. She is known for writing contemporary novels that explore themes such as identity, family, and resilience. Barthelmess grew up in foster care, an experience that has influenced her writing and the subjects she chooses to address in her books.

Her debut novel, The Quiet You Carry, was published by Flux in 2019. The story follows a seventeen-year-old girl navigating the foster care system after being removed from her home. The book has been noted for its realistic portrayal of the foster care experience. Barthelmess continued the story with a sequel, The Quiet You Carry: Quiet No More, published in 2020.

In addition to her debut series, Barthelmess is the author of Everything Within and In Between, published by HarperTeen in 2021. This novel centres on a Mexican American teenager grappling with questions of cultural identity and belonging.
