Nicola Killen biography

Nicola Killen is a British author and illustrator known for her work in children’s picture books. She studied graphic design at Cambridge School of Art, where she later completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration. Killen’s distinctive style often features a limited colour palette and mixed media techniques, combining printmaking, drawing, and collage.

Her debut picture book, Not Me!, was published by Egmont in 2011. She has since written and illustrated several books, including the Owl series, which began with The Little Owl Who Lost Her Hoot and continued with titles such as The Little Owl Who Found a Friend. Her work frequently explores themes of friendship, discovery, and gentle adventure, appealing to young readers and families.

Killen’s book The Little Rabbit was published by Simon & Schuster in 2018. This title, along with The Little Bear and The Little Kitten, forms part of a series that features die-cut pages and interactive elements, encouraging engagement and participation from children. Her illustrations have been recognised for their expressive characterisation and use of texture.
