Nicholas Bowling is a British author and teacher. He studied English at the University of Oxford and later completed an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. Bowling’s debut novel, Witchborn, was published by Chicken House in 2017. The book is a historical fantasy set in Elizabethan London and was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award in 2018.
His second novel, In the Shadow of Heroes, was published by Chicken House in 2019. This work, set in ancient Rome, won the 2020 Costa Children’s Book Award. Bowling’s third novel, The Good Hawk, was published in 2020 under the pseudonym Joseph Elliott. He has also written Song of the Far Isles, published in 2021.
Bowling’s books have been translated into several languages. He continues to write for children and young adults, with his works published by Chicken House and other major publishers. In 2020, In the Shadow of Heroes received the Costa Children’s Book Award.
