Mo O’Hara biography

Mo O’Hara is a children’s author, actor and storyteller. She grew up in Pennsylvania before moving to the UK, where she worked as an actress and comedy performer and appeared at comedy festivals in London and Edinburgh. Her experience touring the UK as a storyteller led her towards writing for children.

O’Hara’s debut novel, My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2013, with illustrations by Marek Jagucki. The story introduces Tom and Frankie, a pet goldfish brought back to life after an experiment leaves him with unusual powers. The book developed into a bestselling series that includes The SeaQuel, Fins of Fury and Jurassic Carp.

She is also the author of the Agent Moose graphic novel series, illustrated by Jess Bradley. The adventures follow Agent Moose and his owl sidekick Owlfred as they investigate mysteries in the Big Forest. The series was originally published in the US by Feiwel & Friends, with UK editions published by Scholastic.

For Andersen Press, O’Hara created the Honey’s Hive series, illustrated by Aya Kakeda. The first book, published in 2023, follows a young bee searching for her place in the hive and combines an adventure story with factual information about bees. Her picture book Puggle Snuggles, illustrated by Loretta Schauer and published by Happy Yak, was released in the UK and US in May 2026.
