Michael Ford is a British author of children’s and young adult fiction and non-fiction. Publisher and Goodreads sources note that he studied Classics and English at the University of Oxford before working in publishing and writing books for primary and secondary readers.
Ford’s historical adventure trilogy about a Spartan trainee warrior – The Fire of Ares, Birth of a Warrior and Legacy of Blood (Bloomsbury) – follows Lysander from slavery to the agoge and into conflict across the ancient Mediterranean. The series blends action with classical detail for confident middle-grade and early teen readers.
He has also written gothic historical fiction for teens, notably The Poisoned House (Bloomsbury/Albert Whitman), a Victorian chiller set in Greave Hall featuring secrets, hauntings and a resilient young heroine. For curriculum topics he contributes accessible non-fiction, including You Wouldn’t Want to Be in the Ancient Greek Olympics! and biography for the A Life Story series such as Rosalind Franklin (Scholastic).
The Poisoned House was first published in 2010.
