Melvin Burgess biography

Melvin Burgess is a British author known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction. He began his writing career with the publication of The Cry of the Wolf in 1990. Burgess has written a range of novels that often explore challenging themes relevant to young people.

His novel Junk, published in 1996, received significant recognition and was awarded the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize. Burgess’s writing is noted for its realistic portrayal of adolescent experiences and its willingness to address complex social issues.

Other notable works by Burgess include Bloodtide (1999), a novel inspired by the Volsunga Saga, and Doing It (2003), which examines teenage relationships and sexuality. He has also written Lady: My Life as a Bitch (2001) and Kill All Enemies (2011), among others.

Burgess’s books have been published by various imprints, including Andersen Press and Penguin Random House. His novel Junk won the Carnegie Medal in 1996.
