Melissa Harrison is a British author known for her work in both adult and children’s literature. She has written novels, non-fiction, and books for younger readers, often focusing on themes related to nature and the environment. Harrison studied English Literature at Oxford University.
Her debut children’s novel, By Ash, Oak and Thorn, was published by Chicken House in 2021. The story follows the adventures of three tiny, ancient beings as they journey through the changing natural world. The book is aimed at readers aged 8 and above and introduces ecological themes in an accessible way. A sequel, By Rowan and Yew, was published by Chicken House in 2022.
In addition to her children’s books, Harrison has written several novels for adults and non-fiction works exploring the British countryside. Her writing has been recognised for its detailed observation of the natural world and its engagement with environmental issues.
