Mary Auld is a British children’s author known for her non-fiction books that introduce young readers to science, history, and the natural world. She has written and co-authored a range of educational titles, often collaborating with subject experts and illustrators to create accessible and engaging content for primary-aged children.
Auld’s work includes contributions to the Little Guides to Great Lives series, published by Laurence King. In this series, she wrote Little Guides to Great Lives: Charles Darwin, illustrated by Anna Doherty, which presents the life and scientific achievements of Charles Darwin in a format suitable for children. The book explores Darwin’s early curiosity, his voyage on HMS Beagle, and the development of his theory of evolution.
Mary Auld has also written for the Science is Everywhere series, published by Franklin Watts. Titles in this series include Science is Everywhere: Science in the Garden and Science is Everywhere: Science at the Seaside, both published in 2020. These books aim to help children discover scientific principles in everyday environments, encouraging observation and inquiry through practical examples and activities.
In addition to her solo projects, Auld has worked with organisations such as the Natural History Museum, London, to produce educational resources and books. Her writing often focuses on making complex topics understandable and interesting for young readers, supporting both classroom learning and independent exploration.
Mary Auld’s Little Guides to Great Lives: Charles Darwin was published by Laurence King in 2019.
