Magda Garguláková biography

Magda N. Garguláková is a Czech children’s non-fiction author and editor. She graduated in Art History from Masaryk University in Brno and in 2011 co-founded the OFF/FORMAT gallery, where she works as a curator and has edited catalogues and specialist publications alongside children’s books that popularise art and design.

Her informational titles for young readers include The Hand Book (originally published in Czech as Ruka: kompletní průvodce, 2021) and Teeth: You Only Get Two Sets. The Hand Book was nominated in 2022 for the Czech Zlatá stuha prize in Children’s Non-fiction and for the Magnesia Litera award in the Children’s Book category.

Garguláková has also written nature and technology titles. Discovering the Hidden Woodland World was issued in English in 2021, and Bridges, created with illustrator Jakub Bachorík, surveys the history and engineering of bridge-building.

Bridges was first published by Albatros in 2023 and released in English by Post Wave Children’s Books in 2025.
