Lydia Monks biography

Lydia Monks is a British author and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She studied illustration at Kingston University before beginning her career in publishing. Monks has illustrated numerous picture books, collaborating with several well-known authors.

She is particularly recognised for her partnership with Julia Donaldson, illustrating books such as What the Ladybird Heard, What the Ladybird Heard Next, and What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday, all published by Macmillan Children’s Books. Monks has also written and illustrated her own titles, including Babble! and Aaaarrgghh, Spider!.

Her distinctive collage and mixed-media style has become a hallmark of her illustrations. Monks’s work has been shortlisted for several awards, and she won the Stockport Children’s Book Award for Oooh! Owls! in 2004.
