Lucy Coats biography

Lucy Coats is a British author known for her work in children’s literature, particularly in the genres of myth, legend, and historical fiction. She studied English at Edinburgh University. Coats has written a range of books for children and young people, including picture books, poetry, and novels.

Her works often draw on her interest in mythology and folklore. Among her notable publications is the Atticus the Storyteller series, which introduces young readers to Greek myths through the travels of the character Atticus. Another series, Beasts of Olympus, is set in the world of ancient Greek mythology and follows the adventures of a boy named Demon who cares for mythical creatures. The first book in this series, Beasts of Olympus: Beast Keeper, was published by Piccadilly Press in 2015.

Coats has also written picture books such as Captain Beastlie’s Pirate Party, illustrated by Chris Mould and published by Nosy Crow. Her poetry collection One Hungry Baby is among her works for younger children.

In 2015, Lucy Coats published the YA novel Cleo with Orchard Books, which is set in ancient Egypt and explores the early life of Cleopatra.
