Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Lucy Catchpole is a British children’s author and writer on disability and family. She read English at the University of Oxford, and her writing has appeared in the Guardian, the Observer and the BBC.
She is the co-author of the picture book You’re So Amazing!, published by Faber in May 2023 and illustrated by Karen George. The book follows a disabled child who is repeatedly labelled “amazing” by strangers, and centres on how people respond to disability.
Catchpole’s first picture book as sole author is Mama Car, illustrated by Karen George and published by Faber on 1 August 2024.
She is also a co-editor, alongside Jen Campbell and James Catchpole, of Owning It: Tales from Our Disabled Childhoods, published by Faber on 24 April 2025.
