Pratt has written books in the Usborne Beginners series, a children’s non-fiction series for readers beginning to read independently. Celts is a 32-page illustrated history book about Celtic people, hill forts, warriors and museum objects; a Usborne Publishing Ltd edition was published in 2007, and a later Usborne edition was published on 19 March 2015 with Terry McKenna as illustrator.
Her Usborne Beginners title Planet Earth is a 32-page children’s science non-fiction book published on 1 June 2007. China, another 32-page Usborne Beginners title by Pratt, introduces children to China’s history, geography, climate, culture, economy and people, and was published on 30 May 2008.
Pratt has also worked on practical science and craft books for children. The Usborne Big Book of Science Things to Make and Do, associated with Rebecca Gilpin and Leonie Pratt in a 2008 paperback edition, introduces children to science through practical activities such as bubbling wizard’s brew, magic flowers, panpipe straws, a spinning paper helicopter and a light catcher.
