Lemony Snicket is the pen name of American author Daniel Handler, who is best known for writing the children’s book series A Series of Unfortunate Events. The series, published by HarperCollins, follows the lives of the Baudelaire orphans—Violet, Klaus, and Sunny—as they encounter a series of misfortunes and the villainous Count Olaf. The first book, The Bad Beginning, was published in 1999, and the series comprises thirteen books in total, concluding with The End in 2006.

Handler adopted the Lemony Snicket persona as both the narrator and a character within the books, providing a distinctive narrative voice marked by dark humour and wordplay. The books are notable for their gothic tone and frequent asides to the reader. In addition to A Series of Unfortunate Events, Lemony Snicket is credited as the author of several companion works, including Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography and The Beatrice Letters.

Snicket is also the author of the four-book series All the Wrong Questions, published by Egmont in the UK, which serves as a prequel to A Series of Unfortunate Events. The first book in this series, Who Could That Be at This Hour?, was published in 2012.
