Leisa Stewart-Sharpe is a trained journalist turned children’s author whose books focus on the natural world. Originally from Australia, she writes narrative non-fiction and picture books that introduce young readers to wildlife, wild places and environmental science. Her debut in children’s non-fiction, Blue Planet II, created in collaboration with BBC Earth and illustrated by Emily Dove, has been translated into multiple languages and established an ongoing strand of nature titles for families and schools.
Subsequent BBC Earth collaborations include The Green Planet (illustrated by Kim Smith), an introduction to plant life inspired by the television series narrated by Sir David Attenborough. Stewart-Sharpe has also written immersive geography and exploration titles such as How Does Chocolate Taste on Everest? (illustrated by Aaron Cushley), which invites readers to experience Earth’s extreme places through the five senses. For younger audiences she has authored picture-led titles including Our Blue Planet with Emily Dove, presenting ocean habitats and conservation themes in an accessible format.
Across these projects, Stewart-Sharpe’s writing combines clear explanation with strong visual storytelling, working closely with illustrators to support curiosity, classroom discussion and independent discovery. Her books are published internationally in print and audio editions by imprints including BBC Children’s Books, Penguin Random House Children’s and Simon & Schuster.
Selected works: Blue Planet II (BBC Earth), The Green Planet (BBC Earth), How Does Chocolate Taste on Everest?, and Our Blue Planet.
