Lea Lyon is an award-winning children’s book illustrator and portrait artist. She loved drawing and painting as a child, took art classes, and was painting in oils at the age of 12. She later became a children’s book illustrator. Her recent illustrated titles include Say Something by Peggy Moss and Keep Your Ear on the Ball by Genevieve Petrillo. Ready to Fly was the first children’s book she wrote.
Her picture books include Say Something (2004), Keep Your Ear on the Ball (31 August 2007), The Miracle Jar: A Hanukkah Story (15 October 2008), and Lailah’s Lunchbox: A Ramadan Story (1 June 2015). She also illustrated It Rained Warm Bread: Moishe Moskowitz’s Story of Hope, which went on sale on 13 August 2019. Lailah’s Lunchbox was named an ALA Notable Book. Lyon then co-wrote Ready to Fly: How Sylvia Townsend Became the Bookmobile Ballerina with Alexandria LaFaye, and the book was published on 28 January 2020.
