Children’s book news for February 2026: CLiPPA opens, Carnegies longlists land, BBC screens Lord of the Flies, plus Information Book Award and ALCS Education Writers’ shortlist updates.
Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Laura Henry-Allain MBE is a UK producer, educationalist and children’s author. She created the JoJo and Gran Gran characters, which were developed and produced for CBeebies, and she is credited as the series’ associate producer.
Her children’s books include My Skin, Your Skin: Let’s talk about race, racism and empowerment, illustrated by Onyinye Iwu and published by Ladybird on 21 October 2021 (ISBN 9780241512739). She followed this with My Family, Your Family: Let’s talk about relatives, love and belonging, illustrated by Giovana Medeiros and published by Ladybird on 5 October 2023 (ISBN 9780241610480).
In 2024, she published Maya & Marley and the Great Big Tidy Up, illustrated by Yabaewah Scott and published by Ladybird on 5 September 2024 (ISBN 9780241624036).
Henry-Allain was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list in 2021 for services to education.
