Laura Baker is a freelance children’s book author and editor with more than fifteen years of experience in publishing.
She earned an Honours BA in English: Rhetoric and Professional Writing (with a minor in French) from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and later completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Wales.
Her career began in technical writing, marketing copywriting and adult publishing before she moved into children’s books. She worked for several years as an editor in children’s publishing before becoming a full-time author–editor.
Her picture book credits include I Love You When… (written under the name Annie Baker, illustrated by Barroux), which was featured on CBeebies Bedtime Stories. She also wrote All the Wonderful Ways to Read, illustrated by Sandra de la Prada, which was selected as ReadingZone’s Picture Book of the Month in March 2023.
Baker has edited award-winning titles, including Spot A Lot Vehicle Adventure (by Steve Smallman, illustrated by Nicola Slater), which won a Parents’ Choice Fun Stuff Award.
A recent milestone: All the Wonderful Ways to Read was read on CBeebies Bedtime Stories on World Book Day.
