Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Kemi Olusoga is an artist, illustrator and historian who has worked in the UK heritage sector, interpreting history through exhibitions and publications. Her work in children’s publishing focuses on visually led non-fiction for middle-grade and teen readers.
Olusoga is the co-author and illustrator of Black History for Every Day of the Year, written with David Olusoga and Yinka Olusoga and published by Macmillan Children’s Books. The UK hardback presents 366 entries spanning people, events and movements from global Black history, and is illustrated throughout.
An American edition of Black History for Every Day of the Year was published by The Experiment. Publisher biographies describe Olusoga as an artist and historian whose professional practice connects visual storytelling with historical research.
Black History for Every Day of the Year was published in the UK in 2024 (ISBN 9781529066203) and in the US in 2025.
