Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Katie Wilson is an illustrator and designer from Aotearoa New Zealand. Her commissioned work has appeared in magazines, greeting cards and books, with clients including Studio Oh, Hallmark, Papyrus, Quarto, Scholastic and Woodmansterne.
Wilson has illustrated children’s books for publishers including New Frontier Publishing and the Quarto Group. Her picture book work includes Extraordinary!, written by Penny Harrison and published by New Frontier Publishing in 2020. The book was later featured on CBeebies Bedtime Stories, read by Reese Witherspoon. For Quarto’s Little People, BIG DREAMS series, she illustrated Jane Austen by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara.
In 2026, Wilson illustrated Angus the Bear’s First Day at School, a children’s book developed by young people involved in the Inspire Highland project, supported by Inspiring Young Voices, and written with Jen Hadfield. The book was created as an autism-awareness resource for every primary school and library in the Highlands.
