Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Kate Mosse is a British author, playwright, and broadcaster, known for her historical fiction and non-fiction works. She studied at New College, Oxford, and worked in publishing before becoming a full-time writer. Mosse is the author of several novels, including the internationally recognised Languedoc Trilogy, which comprises Labyrinth (2005), Sepulchre (2007), and Citadel (2012). Her books often explore themes of history, religion, and the lives of women, frequently set in the south of France.
In addition to her fiction, Mosse has written non-fiction titles such as An Extra Pair of Hands: A Story of Caring, Ageing and Everyday Acts of Love (2021), which reflects on her experiences as a carer. She has also written plays, including adaptations for the stage, and contributed to radio and television programmes.
Mosse is the founder director of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, established in 1996 to celebrate and promote fiction written by women. She has been involved in various literary festivals and is a regular commentator on literature and women’s issues.
Her novel The Ghost Ship was published by Pan Macmillan in 2023.
