Kate Baker is a children’s author and editor whose published books cover natural history, geography, travel, history and mythology. She has written books for Templar Publishing, Big Picture Press and Lonely Planet Kids, working with illustrators on picture books, illustrated non-fiction and interactive titles.
Her books include Secrets of the Sea, illustrated by Eleanor Taylor, and Walk This Wild World, illustrated by Sam Brewster. The latter explores wildlife habitats around the world through illustrations, animal facts and lift-the-flap features. Published by Templar, it was shortlisted for the English Association’s 2018 English 4-11 Picture Book Awards. Baker also worked on Highest Mountain, Smallest Star, illustrated by Page Tsou, which compares natural wonders and record-breaking features of the world.
For Lonely Planet Kids, Baker wrote Wild in the City (2019), illustrated by Gianluca Folì, which examines animals living in urban environments across six continents. Her other titles for the publisher include A Time to Celebrate (2022), illustrated by Ya Ling Huang, and Happiness Around the World (2022), illustrated by Wazza Pink.
Baker is also the author of Story Path, illustrated by Madalena Matoso. This interactive picture book allows children to select characters, settings and events to construct their own adventures. Originally published in 2016, Story Path was released in a new board-book edition by Templar in 2025.
