Julie Sykes is a British author known for her work in children’s literature. She has written over 100 books, including picture books, early readers, and chapter books. Sykes is the author of the Unicorn Academy series, published by Nosy Crow, which has been translated into multiple languages. Her other works include the Fairy Ponies series and the Silver Dolphins series, both published by Usborne Publishing.
Sykes has collaborated with several illustrators, including Tim Warnes, with whom she created the picture book Santa’s Busy Night. Her books have been published by major publishers such as Nosy Crow, Usborne, and Little Tiger Press. Titles by Sykes have appeared in book fairs and reading schemes in the UK and internationally.
Her book That’s Not My Fairy, co-authored with Fiona Watt, is part of the popular That’s Not My… series published by Usborne. Sykes’s works have been shortlisted for awards, including the Sheffield Children’s Book Award. The Unicorn Academy series has been recognised for its popularity among young readers and has sold over one million copies worldwide.
In 2023, the Unicorn Academy series was adapted into an animated series by Netflix, further expanding its reach to a global audience.
