Jory John is an American author known for his work in children’s literature. He has written numerous picture books and middle-grade novels, often collaborating with illustrators such as Pete Oswald and Mac Barnett. His books are published by several major publishers, including HarperCollins and Penguin Random House.
Jory John is the author of the popular Food Group series, which includes titles such as The Bad Seed, The Good Egg, The Cool Bean, The Couch Potato, and The Smart Cookie. These books, illustrated by Pete Oswald, explore themes of self-acceptance, kindness, and personal growth through humorous stories featuring anthropomorphic food characters.
In addition to the Food Group series, Jory John has co-authored the bestselling series The Terrible Two with Mac Barnett. This middle-grade series, illustrated by Kevin Cornell and published by Amulet Books, follows the adventures of two pranksters at a school in the town of Yawnee Valley. The first book in the series, The Terrible Two, was published in 2015.
Jory John has also written standalone picture books, including Penguin Problems and Giraffe Problems, both illustrated by Lane Smith. These books use animal characters to address everyday challenges and emotions in a relatable way for young readers.
