Jonathan Stroud biography

Jonathan Stroud is a British author known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction. He studied English Literature at the University of York. Stroud began his publishing career as an editor at Walker Books before becoming a full-time writer.

Stroud is best known for the Bartimaeus Sequence, a fantasy series comprising four main novels: The Amulet of Samarkand (2003), The Golem’s Eye (2004), Ptolemy’s Gate (2005), and The Ring of Solomon (2010). The series has been translated into over 30 languages and has received critical acclaim.

He has also written the Lockwood & Co. series, which includes The Screaming Staircase (2013), The Whispering Skull (2014), The Hollow Boy (2015), The Creeping Shadow (2016), and The Empty Grave (2017). The series was adapted into a television series by Netflix in 2023.

Stroud’s other works include Buried Fire (1999), The Leap (2001), and The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne (2021), as well as its sequel The Notorious Scarlett and Browne (2022).

His books have received several awards, including the Red House Children’s Book Award for Ptolemy’s Gate in 2006 and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Young Adult Literature for The Amulet of Samarkand in 2004.

In 2023, Stroud published The Phantom and the Ghost, the third book in the Scarlett and Browne series.
