Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Jion Sheibani is a British-Iranian author and illustrator of children’s books. She studied at the University of Oxford and later trained in illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. Sheibani’s debut picture book, Lily & the Polar Bears, was published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books in 2018. She has also written and illustrated the Frankie’s World series, beginning with The Worries: Sohal Finds a Friend, published by Puffin in 2021. The book was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2022.
Sheibani’s work includes both picture books and illustrated fiction for younger readers. Her titles include The Worries: Shara Makes Me Scared and The Worries: Leo Says Sorry. Sheibani’s books have been published in several languages. She has also worked as a teacher and runs an English language school.
In 2022, The Worries: Sohal Finds a Friend was shortlisted for the Alligator’s Mouth Award. Sheibani continues to write and illustrate children’s books for major UK publishers.

The Silver Chain by Jion Sheibani is highly recommended for teens aged 14+. This lovely book will, I’m sure, delight and reassure anyone going through this difficult time in her or his life. It will also solve at least one Christmas-list problem for parents, aunts and uncles!
