Jim Field is a British illustrator, character designer, and animation director. He studied animation at Hull School of Art and Design. Field is known for illustrating numerous children’s books, including the bestselling Oi Frog! series written by Kes Gray, which began with Oi Frog! published by Hodder Children’s Books in 2014. He has also illustrated The Lion Inside (2015), The Koala Who Could (2016), and The Squirrels Who Squabbled (2017), all written by Rachel Bright and published by Orchard Books.
Field’s work includes illustrations for Rabbit and Bear by Julian Gough, published by Hodder Children’s Books, and How Many Legs? by Kes Gray. He has collaborated with authors such as David Baddiel, illustrating The Parent Agency (2014) and subsequent titles.
Jim Field has received several awards for his illustrations. Oi Dog!, part of the Oi Frog! series, won the Laugh Out Loud Book Award (Lollies) in 2017. The Koala Who Could won the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award in 2017. The Lion Inside was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2016.
Field’s books have been translated into multiple languages and adapted for stage and television. His illustrations are recognised for their humour and distinctive style. In 2023, Oi Frog! was adapted into a stage production by Kenny Wax Family Entertainment.
Jim Field’s illustrations for Oi Frog! and related titles have contributed to their status as bestsellers in the UK children’s book market.
