Jennifer Bell is a British author known for her children’s books, particularly the Uncommoners series. Before becoming a writer, she worked as a children’s bookseller at Foyles bookshop in London. Her debut novel, The Crooked Sixpence, was published by Puffin in 2016 and is the first book in the Uncommoners trilogy. The series follows siblings Ivy and Seb as they discover a secret underground city and encounter magical objects and hidden dangers.
Bell’s writing is characterised by imaginative world-building and inventive plots. The Uncommoners series continued with The Smoking Hourglass and The Frozen Telescope, both published by Puffin. In addition to this trilogy, Bell has written Wonderscape, published by Walker Books in 2020. Wonderscape is a science fiction adventure set in a futuristic in-game world, where three children must solve puzzles and challenges to find their way home.
Jennifer Bell’s books have been recognised for their creativity and appeal to young readers. Wonderscape was shortlisted for the 2021 British Book Awards in the Children’s Fiction Book of the Year category.
