Jenni Desmond biography

Jenni Desmond is a British author and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She studied at the Cambridge School of Art, where she completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration. Desmond’s books often explore themes related to the natural world, combining factual information with engaging illustrations.

Her debut picture book, Red Cat Blue Cat, was published in 2012 by Blue Apple Books. Desmond has since written and illustrated several non-fiction picture books, including The Blue Whale (Enchanted Lion Books, 2015), The Polar Bear (Enchanted Lion Books, 2016), and The Elephant (Enchanted Lion Books, 2018). These titles form part of a series that introduces young readers to different animal species through a blend of scientific detail and visual storytelling.

Desmond’s work has received recognition within the field of children’s publishing. The Blue Whale was selected as a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book in 2015. She has also illustrated books for other authors, such as On the Night of the Shooting Star by Amy Hest (Walker Books, 2017).

In 2016, Jenni Desmond was named an Illustrator to Watch by The Bookseller. Her book The Polar Bear was included in the USBBY Outstanding International Books List in 2017.
