Jamia Wilson biography

Jamia Wilson is a feminist activist, writer, speaker, podcaster and author of books for children and adults. Her work has included contributions to The New York Times, the Today Show, CNN, BBC, Elle, Glamour, Refinery29 and The Washington Post.

Her books include Young, Gifted, and Black, Step Into Your Power: 23 Lessons on How to Live Your Best Life and Big Ideas for Young Thinkers. She wrote the introduction and oral history for Together We Rise: Behind the Scenes at the Protest Heard Around the World.

Young, Gifted and Black, illustrated by Andrea Pippins, introduces 52 Black heroes from the past and present and was published in paperback on 5 July 2018. Young, Gifted and Black, Too, also illustrated by Andrea Pippins, was published by Wide Eyed Editions in 2023 and presents more than 50 biographical stories from Black history for readers aged 9 to 11.

The ABCs of AOC: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from A to Z, written by Jamia Wilson and illustrated by Krystal Quiles, was published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers on 1 October 2019. The book introduces terms connected with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s life, politics and platform for young readers interested in government and activism.

Wilson has also worked in publishing as Executive Director and Publisher of the Feminist Press at CUNY, then as Vice President and Executive Editor at Random House. Make Good Trouble, her narrative collection about more than 70 moments of global activism for readers aged 12 and above, was published by DK Children on 25 February 2025.
