Ian Fleming was a British author best known for creating the character James Bond. He was born in London and educated at Eton College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Fleming worked as a journalist and served as a naval intelligence officer during the Second World War. His experiences in intelligence informed much of his later writing.
Fleming began writing the James Bond series in 1952 with the publication of Casino Royale. The series follows the adventures of a British secret service agent, and Fleming wrote a total of twelve Bond novels and two collections of short stories. The books are known for their detailed settings, espionage plots, and distinctive protagonist.
In addition to the Bond series, Fleming wrote the children’s book Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car, published in 1964. This story follows the adventures of the Pott family and their magical car, and it remains a notable work in children’s literature.
Fleming’s final James Bond novel, The Man with the Golden Gun, was published posthumously in 1965.
