Holly Sterling biography

Holly Sterling is a British author and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She studied at the University of Sunderland, where she completed a Master’s degree in Illustration and Design. Sterling has worked as both an illustrator and a writer, contributing to a range of picture books and early readers.

Sterling’s debut as an author-illustrator was with the picture book Hiccups!, published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books in 2014. She has since written and illustrated several books, including Karate Kids (Walker Books, 2020), which draws on her experience as a karate instructor. Sterling has also illustrated books for other authors, such as 15 Things Not to Do with a Baby by Margaret McAllister and Everybody Feels Happy by Moira Butterfield.

Her illustrations are recognised for their expressive characters and inclusive representation. Sterling’s work often explores themes of family, friendship, and everyday experiences. In addition to her publishing work, she has contributed to educational resources and has been involved in workshops and events promoting children’s literacy and creativity.

In 2023, Holly Sterling’s book My Mummy is a Lioness was published by Walker Books.
