Helen Stephens is a British author, illustrator and picture-book maker. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1994, and her first book was published in 1998.
Stephens created the How to Hide a Lion series, about Iris and the lion she tries to keep hidden. Her official website states that she has written and illustrated four books in the series.
Her other books include Fleabag, The Night Iceberg and Smelly Peggy. Walker Books published Smelly Peggy on 5 June 2025.
Stephens is also one of the co-founders of The Good Ship Illustration, an online art school for illustrators and image makers.
Salty Dog and Pals: The Storm & Other Stories, written by Katie Chappell and Helen Stephens and illustrated by Stephens, was published by Walker Books on 7 May 2026.
