Hannah Moffatt is a British children’s author known for her humorous and imaginative fiction. She studied English at university and has worked as a copywriter and in communications, including roles within the NHS. Moffatt’s debut novel, Small!, was published by Everything with Words in 2022. The story follows Harvey Small, a boy who attends Madame Bogbrush’s School for Gifted Giants, and is noted for its playful approach to themes of difference and belonging. The book features illustrations by Rory Walker.
Moffatt’s writing is aimed at middle-grade readers and is characterised by its wit and inventive settings. Her second book, Small Bites Back, was published in 2023, continuing the adventures of Harvey Small. Moffatt has participated in school events and festivals, sharing her enthusiasm for reading and creative writing with young audiences.
Small! was shortlisted for the 2023 Branford Boase Award, which recognises outstanding debut novels for children.
