Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Hamza Ahmed Yassin (born 22 February 1990) is a Sudanese-born British wildlife cameraman, presenter and author. He presents the CBeebies series Ranger Hamza’s Eco Quest and appears on BBC programmes including Countryfile and Animal Park. In 2022 he won the twentieth series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Yassin moved to the UK as a child and studied Zoology with Conservation at Bangor University (BSc). He later completed a master’s degree in Biological Photography and Imaging at the University of Nottingham, training for a career behind the camera as well as on screen.
Alongside broadcasting and fieldwork he has written for general readers. His debut book, Be a Birder (2023), introduces birdwatching with practical guidance on identification, equipment and observing species responsibly.
Yassin has spoken publicly about living with dyslexia and supports initiatives that promote inclusive learning and access to nature for young people.
