Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Gavin Puckett is a British children’s author known for his rhyming stories. He won the 2013 Greenhouse Funny Prize, a competition for humorous writing for children, with his debut book Murray the Horse. The book was published by Faber & Faber in 2015 and illustrated by Emma Levey.
Puckett has written several other rhyming picture books, including Hendrix the Rocking Horse (2016), Poppy the Police Horse (2017), Colin the Cart Horse (2018), and Fergus the Ferry Horse (2019), all published by Faber & Faber. His books are illustrated by different artists, with Tor Freeman illustrating Colin the Cart Horse and Fergus the Ferry Horse.
In 2022, Puckett published Fish and Chips, illustrated by Adam Stower, also with Faber & Faber. His works are noted for their use of rhyme and humour, and are aimed at young readers.
Gavin Puckett received the Greenhouse Funny Prize in 2013 for Murray the Horse.
