Gareth P. Jones biography

Gareth P. Jones is a British children’s author and television producer. He began his career in television, producing documentaries and factual programmes, before turning to children’s writing. His first book, The Dragon Detective Agency: The Case of the Missing Cats, was published in 2006 and launched a series that combined detective fiction with fantasy elements.

Jones has written across picture books, chapter books, and middle-grade fiction. His titles include the Ninja Meerkats series, the Steampunk Pirates books, and the adventure novel The Thornthwaite Inheritance (2009), which was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. A sequel, The Thornthwaite Betrayal, followed in 2011.

His picture books include The Dinosaurs Are Having a Party! and Are You the Pirate Captain?, both noted for their lively storytelling and illustrations by Garry Parsons. He has also collaborated with illustrator Dave Shelton on the darkly comic The Considine Curse, which won the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Story in 2012.

Jones continues to publish widely with UK publishers such as Stripes, Bloomsbury, and Andersen Press. His work has been translated into several languages and is read internationally.
