Eoin McLaughlin is an Irish author known for his work in children’s literature. He has gained recognition for his engaging storytelling and unique approach to picture books. McLaughlin’s debut book, The Hug, was published in 2019 by Faber & Faber. The book features illustrations by Polly Dunbar and tells the story of a hedgehog and a tortoise in search of a hug. This book was well-received and praised for its warmth and charm.
Following the success of The Hug, McLaughlin and Dunbar collaborated again on While We Can’t Hug, published in 2020. This book was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, offering children a way to express affection without physical contact. The book was appreciated for its timely message and creative storytelling.
In addition to his work with Polly Dunbar, McLaughlin has collaborated with other illustrators. His book Secret Agent Elephant, illustrated by Ross Collins, was published by Hachette Children’s Group in 2019. This humorous story follows an elephant who becomes a secret agent, showcasing McLaughlin’s versatility in writing across different themes and styles.
