Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Emma Shevah is a British author known for her children’s novels. She studied at the University of Bristol and has worked as an English teacher. Her writing often explores themes of family, identity, and cultural heritage.
Shevah’s debut children’s novel, Dream On, Amber, was published by Chicken House in 2014. The book follows the story of Amber, a half-Italian, half-Japanese girl navigating family life and school. Dream On, Amber was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2015.
Her subsequent novels include Dara Palmer’s Major Drama (Chicken House, 2016), which centres on a Cambodian-born girl adopted into a British family, and What Lexie Did (Chicken House, 2018), which tells the story of a Greek-Cypriot girl dealing with the consequences of a lie. In 2020, Shevah published How to Save the World with a Chicken and an Egg with Chicken House, focusing on themes of environmental responsibility and friendship.
Emma Shevah’s Dream On, Amber was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2015.
